Reading club 2是本单元自主学习内容。教材设计此课的目的是围绕本单元主题意义“人与自然”，拓展文化视野，发展思维能力。“环境问题，关系人人；环境保护，人人有责。生命和绿色拥抱，人类与生态***存。” 本课向学生介绍了目前我们面临的三大最严重的环境问题（空气污染、全球气候变暖、泛滥的垃圾填埋场）。属于“人与自然”主题语境下的“环境保护”主题群范畴的“人与环境、人与动植物；人类生存、社会发展与环境的关系”内容。其主题意义在于通过介绍三大环境威胁、说明三大环境问题的成因、影响和解决办法，使人们认识环境问题的严重性以及认识到践行环境保护行动的重要性。

（拓展：人类还面临着其他的环境问题，比如森林砍伐，某些动物物种的灭绝，人口过剩。）

主要内容／ What

本文语篇介绍了目前我们面临的三大最严重的环境问题（空气污染、全球气候变暖、泛滥的垃圾填埋场）。

Air pollution 空气污染成因： The causes of air pollution are: the burning of fossil fuels , construction, the burning of waste. 影响：the effects of air pollution are： serious health problems and deaths.

解决办法: The solution to air pollution can be easy: Using public transport instead of driving unless when it's absolutely necessary.

Global warming

定义： Global warming is the increase in the temperature of the Earth's near- surface air and oceans.

成因: It's caused by the build -up of carbon dioxide and other pollutants in the atmosphere , which trap the sun's heat and warm up the planet.

影响 : A wide range of problems: Sea levels are rising due to the melting of polar ice sheets, countries around the world have faced extreme weather conditions , such as hurricanes, floods and heat waves.

Overflowing landfills

定义: Landfills are big spaces of land used for waste disposal in many countries around the world.

影响 However, due to the amount of waste our lifestyles produce these landfills are now reaching full capacity when this happens, the chances of dangerous chemicals in the waist entering our water supply increase.

解决方法 Resolutions : Besides the three Rs （Reduce,Reuse and Recycle ） ,people should take responsibility for reducing the waste they produce themselves .
