写的是路易十六在法国大革命前后丢掉皇位和性命的故事，歌唱者（也就是coldplay酷玩乐队）的主视角是路易十六自己。

路易十六类似于明朝木匠皇帝朱由校，热爱五金工艺，号“锁匠皇帝”。大革命之后，被迫接受立宪，暗中镇压革命党，而后波旁王朝推翻后被处死。是法国历史中唯一一个被处死的国王。

这首歌节奏明快，像是人生得意正当时，但是歌词却表达了一个失败国王对自己悲惨一生的回顾，这种感觉就好像是一个失意的人在顾影自怜，而世界依然运转如常，喧嚣依旧，更加让人唏嘘感慨。
